As the tides ebb and flow, so too do we, navigating our experiences in accordance with our personal growth.

Let’s set aside stereotypes and assumptions. I don’t believe anyone is inherently more ‘spiritual’ than anyone else, not even someone like the Dalai Lama! He is simply on his own path, focused on self-discovery while helping others, just like the rest of us. I’m certain he questions his purpose on challenging days too!

So here you are, riding high on the waves, everything feels fantastic… you’re learning, taking action, and life is flowing abundantly as it should… you've got this! You might even be craving (or demanding) even more abundance! It’s about time!

Then, suddenly, a wave crashes down on you. You’re thrown underwater, struggling to breathe. You sense a loss of control. That fleeting joy has vanished, and you’ve scraped yourself on the sand trying to find solid ground. Ouch. It hurts. On every level.

What just happened?

You’re left feeling soaked, frustrated, angry, disappointed, perhaps even hopeless or depressed, lonely, and disconnected. Your ambitions are clouded by self-sabotaging thoughts.

Your self-esteem may have taken a serious blow. You’re holding your breath. Your body feels heavy.

These are all indicators that it’s time for a transformation; the infinity symbol has been pinched at the waist.

Your entire being needs to slow down (quite literally). This period of ‘rest’ is crucial for your consciousness and energy to catch up, and you have no idea how long that might take.

Time will stretch as long as necessary for you to integrate this layer of healing.

Like a surfer waiting for the next big swell, all you can do is be patient and wait, and wait, and wait (surfers are often some of the best meditators!).

Instead of resisting, embrace this, and don’t be afraid. You are no less of a person than you were; in fact, you are even more!

Trust that your life will begin to flow again after the necessary time for regeneration and integration has passed.

Have your toolbox ready, and carve out time in your day to:

  • Breathe deeply. Slow down your rhythm.

  • Write down your thoughts.

  • Spend some time in solitude.

  • Allow yourself to be still.

  • Walk on the beach (the water can be great for releasing emotional tension) or in the woods.

  • Hug trees (it’s genuinely beneficial!).

  • Take a relaxing bath.

  • Bake something delicious.

  • Garden and connect with nature.

  • Call a friend to talk things through.

  • Read a novel (preferably something unrelated to self-development).

  • Spend quality time with friends.

  • Watch a good movie.

  • Essentially, do whatever it takes to nurture your soul.

In doing so, you’ll be prepared, and when the moment is right, you won’t even realize you’re back in the flow, moving forward, and fully ready to dive headfirst into the waves… into the vast, deep, fearless realm of creation that is yours for the taking.

Until we meet again.

"Waves are not measured in feet and inches; they are measured in increments of fear." - Buzzy Trent
