13 ways to ride the waves in a spiritual storm!

As waves ebb and flow so do we, ebb and flow, within our experience or according to our level of ‘spiritual’ development.

I would like to change ‘spiritual’ progress, and use ‘personal’ progress instead, let’s get all stereotypes and preconceptions out of the way.

I don’t see anyone more ‘spiritual’ than anyone else, including for example, the Dalai Lama! He’s just on his path working on his inner being and helping others as much as everyone else, I’m sure he questions his purpose on his challenging days too!

SO, here you are, riding the waves, everything is looking goooood…..you’re learning, you’re taking action, life is sweet and flowing in abundance and exactly as it should be…..you got this! And requesting (or demanding) that more of it comes your way too! About time!

Then, unexpectedly, there’s a dip and a wave crashes on your head. You’re flung around under the water trying to catch the air to breathe. You’re losing control. That temporary flow has gone, and you’ve scraped your ass on the sand trying to get to safer shores. Ouch. It hurts. On every level.

What happened????

You’re left soggy and feeling frustrated or angry, disappointed, a lost cause, maybe depressed, lonely, disconnected, loss of vitality. Your dreams are replaced with self-sabotaging talk.

You’re self esteem may also have had a huge tug backwards. You’re holding your breath. Your body feels heavy.

These are all signs that it’s time, the infinity symbol is nipped at the waist.

Your whole being needs to stop moving (literally) so fast. This ‘rest’ period has to happen to allow your consciousness and energy some time to catch up. And you don’t know how long that is going to take.

So time will take as long as necessary for you to integrate this layer of healing.

Like the surfer waiting to catch the next big wave, there's nothing to do, just to be patient and wait, and wait, and wait (surfers are actually some of the best meditators!).

So instead of resisting, don’t be afraid. You are no less of a person than you were, in fact, you are more!

As a law of nature, you must trust that your life will start to flow again after regeneration and integration time has occurred.

Have your toolbox ready and allow some time in your day to:

  • Breathe. Fully.

  • Write out your thoughts

  • Spend time in solitude

  • Allow time to be still

  • Walk on the beach (water is great for releasing an emotional charge) or forest

  • Hug some trees (it is actually really good for you!)

  • Take a bath

  • Bake

  • Garden

  • Call a friend to talk things over

  • Read a novel (non self-development based)

  • Spend time with friends

  • Watch a good movie

Basically, all the ways you can think of to nurture your soul.

In this way you'll be ready and when the time is right, you won’t even notice that you’re back, you’re running ahead and absolutely completely ready to dive in, light yet powerfully, head first into the waves…straight in to that expansive, deep, fearless, world of creation, that is yours for the taking.

Until the next time.
