Shadow figure with hands pressed on glass

Do you recall the first time you became aware of your shadow? That human-like shape that seemed to follow you everywhere, visible in the light and vanishing in the dark, sometimes still, sometimes moving. Perhaps that moment was enjoyable, or maybe it felt a bit frightening. I distinctly remember feeling a touch of fear—after all, shadows are the stuff of scary movies, right?

In reality, shadow work is one of the most powerful and transformative journeys you can undertake.

Your shadow self encompasses all the emotions you've neglected, every experience that has brought you shame, and every trait you've rejected about yourself. But here’s the twist—your shadow also holds untapped potential, hidden strengths, and profound wisdom.

How do you know when it's time to begin shadow work? Your shadow won't communicate in kind words. It can lead to self-sabotage, limiting beliefs, emotional triggers, and inner turmoil. However, when embraced, it becomes an incredible source of strength and healing—something I can personally attest to.

Shadow work isn't always straightforward, as it involves acknowledging, integrating, and healing the parts of yourself you've pushed aside because you weren't ready to confront them at the time usually due to some form of trauma. You may feel fragmented, and that frightened or vulnerable aspect of you, from a healing perspective, has remained suspended in time, waiting to return home to you. It will take time.

There are many ways to start embracing shadow work. Here are some simple steps:

Journaling:

Ask yourself questions such as:

What patterns are recurring in my life?

What traits in others irritate me the most?

Why do I feel lost, empty, or dead inside?

Inner Child Work:

Many aspects of our shadow originate from childhood wounds. Cultivate self-compassion and engage with your inner child, reassuring them that you’ve survived it all. Be gentrle with yourself.

Meditation:

Practice either walking or sitting meditation to deeply connect with your body and your feelings.

Crystals:

Crystals possess vibrational energy that can aid your shadow work journey, helping you feel grounded, safe, and receptive to transformation. I personally enjoy working with Smoky Quartz, but other options include Black Tourmaline, Indigo Gabbro, Zebra Calcite, and Obsidian.

If you feel ready to delve deeper, I can guide you through this process. Change won’t happen overnight, but over time, you will begin to understand and connect with your shadow more profoundly, leading to positive changes in your mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Many blessings,

Sara xx
